Did you know, no matter how many solar panels the EU installs, we will still be reliant on coal and gas at night? This is because most energy is produced during the day, but most energy is actually used at night, giving a mismatch between supply and demand. This difference can be solved with the use of a battery. Unfortunately, our current batteries (Lithium-ion batteries) can’t solve this imbalance, as there is not enough Lithium-ion in the world for this (see here). So how can we then still solve this mismatch of supply and demand?

Team Better/e wants to solve this mismatch with the use of an all iron redox flow battery. This battery would be safe to use, would have cheap materials, and most importantly, it will work on iron, one of the most common materials on earth.

Our goal is to publish all our progress and results online in an open source document, so everyone can use our idea and improve on it. If someone uses our open source, he or she is obligated to put the improvements back into our open source. With this idea, more and more people are able to work on redox flow batteries and together we can accelerate the energy transition!
